| Here's a selection of my Strathclyde Leyland Atlantean slides scanned, taken in the 1980's and 1990's. Atlanteans were probably the important contribution to the Glasgow bus scene in the 1960's and 1970's, and continued to provide front line service through the 1980's and through most of the 1990's. These slides concentrate on the buses I photographed on student trips to Glasgow and from my own twelve years living in the Glasgow area between 1987 and 1999. As such these are all the later AN68 type of Atlantean, the distinctive roar of which could be heard around Glasgow streets for many years.
I've done the same as with the Ailsa collection, in labelling all the images as "SBL", to try to allow the pictures to flow in numerical order, despite the the fact that legal lettering and ownership changed a couple of times in this period - GGPTE at the start and latterly First Glasgow. The exceptions to that are three early shots taken for me in 1978/81 by visiting friends which are labelled as GGPTE. I've included one or two slides which could be described as a bit "iffy" and have not scanned that well - just a rushed shot or the first camera! I've included them simply because the bus or shot is interesting These slides are taken on a variety of 100 and 200 ASA slide films and scanned with a Nikon Coolscan V ED film scanner. |
